Overview of Women’s Clogs
Whoever said that fashion and comfort don’t mix have it wrong. The sexy and high stiletto is considered to be the hottest style of shoes, pumps are always good for the office and parties, wedges are perfect for picnics and just walking around a park, sandals are great in the beach and ballet flats are just right for a day hanging out in the mall. Comfort is subjective. With this in mind, each style can be comfortable depending on the person wearing them and where she’s heading.

On this note, the epitome of comfort is the clogs. They are slip on shoes that are often made out of leather or rubber. There are some clogs with the bottom parts are still made out of wood while others are made of pure rubber. These are used in gardening, restaurant works and even inside hospitals.
Just think about Crocs, those really comfortable shoes that you can walk around in all day. Remember that nowadays, Crocs have several different styles from the flat slip-ons, mary-janes to heels and wedges.
There are actually four main types of clogs. Ever since the Sound of Music, I have always associated it with clogs. The Dutch are quite famous for their clogs which are called klompen. They are the traditional kind of clogs made solely out of wood. These have been accredited to be safety shoes for they can withstand penetration from sharp acids and acids. Most Dutch no longer wear klompen for daily use but still wear them for working in their gardens. They believed that klompen are healthy for the wearers feet. Tourists often buy clogs as a souvenir.
The clog actually has been used in other countries. In France, they are called sabot. In the United Kingdom, slats of wood held in place by straps were called pattens and were usually worn over fabric or leather shoes. In Italy, clogs have an upward pointing sole and a leather hood. In Spain, the heel of the clog is elevated by a tripod. Until today, these clogs are still being used in some Spanish towns. It is also worn like a patten.
Another type of clog is the one used for clogging or clog-dancing. These are shoes that make a distinct sound, sort of like tap shoes. Rhythmical tapping and movement create both a dance to behold and a melody to listen to. There are different versions of clog-dancing but that is another topic.
Why should comfort be sacrificed in the name of looking good? Why should we choose between two things that we actually deserve? We deserve to look good and feel comfortable and there isn’t any other way around that. Several styles of clogs have emerged and each one of them can compete in the fashion department.
Be it a wedge, a pump or cute flats. There has also been the spread of adding a special and personalized decor to your clogs, like the Jibbits of Crocs. All you need is a quirky sense of style and you can just pull any outfit off with a pair of clogs.
